What’s Happening
A new Loganlea station is being built 500 metres south of the existing one, placing it directly opposite Logan Hospital.
The $174 million project is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments as part of the $5.75 billion Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail program. That broader program will double the tracks from two to four along the 20-kilometre corridor between Kuraby and Beenleigh, upgrade nine stations, and remove five level crossings.
Construction Progress
The Martinus Degnan Joint Venture, a partnership between Martinus Rail and Degnan Constructions, was awarded the building contract in September 2024. Construction started in January 2025.
Major works are now underway on the station building, first platform, park-and-ride, and pedestrian overpass. The station is expected to open by mid-2027, weather and construction permitting.
What the New Station Includes
The new station will feature dual lifts on each platform, an elevated pedestrian overpass connecting Valencia Street and Armstrong Road, and a park-and-ride facility. It will also have secure bicycle and scooter parking, accessible bus stops, kiss-and-ride bays, and enhanced CCTV and lighting.
Platforms will have raised kerbing for level access to trains, tactile ground surface indicators, and real-time display screens. The station building will include hearing loops and wayfinding signage, with provision for future fare gates.
Local Impact During Construction
Valencia Street was temporarily closed between Kraatz Avenue and Loganlea State High School from 13 December 2025 to 26 January 2026 for road realignment. Armstrong Road has also had lane closures and temporary parking removal for electrical works.
Two bus stops near the site have been moved. Construction runs from 6am to 6.30pm on weekdays and Saturdays, with overnight works carried out intermittently for track formation and ground stabilisation near the rail corridor. Train services are not affected during the current phase, and the existing Loganlea station will remain open until the new one is completed.
The Bigger Picture
The relocated station will sit at the centre of a growing health and education precinct. Logan Hospital is undergoing its largest expansion, with TAFE Queensland’s Loganlea campus and Loganlea State High School also nearby.
“The newly-located Loganlea station and park ’n’ ride will provide better connectivity to local facilities and ensure accessibility for everyone travelling around South East Queensland,” Shannon Fentiman, the state member for Waterford, said.
“Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail is vital to increasing train services between Beenleigh and the Gold Coast,” Queensland Transport Minister Bart Mellish said. The program is also expected to support spectator movement during the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
