Amazon's $750 Million Robotics Giant Coming to Logan
Amazon Australia is investing more than $750 million in a robotics fulfilment centre at North Maclean, creating 3,000 jobs and turning Logan into South East Queensland’s largest logistics hub.

Amazon Australia has confirmed it will invest more than $750 million building a robotics fulfilment centre at North Maclean.
The four-level, 150,000 square metre facility is the equivalent of 18 rugby league fields, almost double the size of Suncorp Stadium. It will have the capacity to house up to 15 million of the smaller items sold on Amazon.com.au, including pantry staples, beauty products, electronics and toys. Construction is already underway at Charter Hall’s Flagstone Logistics Estate, with operations scheduled to begin in 2028.
Employment Opportunities
The facility will create 2,000 jobs during construction and 1,000 permanent roles once it opens in 2028. Those positions will span entry-level warehouse work requiring no prior experience through to technical jobs in robotics maintenance, IT and engineering.
Once fully operational, the centre will process more than 125 million packages per year, including items from Queensland-based small and medium businesses who use Amazon to reach customers across Australia.
Logan Mayor Jon Raven welcomed the announcement.
“Everything is big in Logan, and this is set to be the size of two Suncorp Stadiums. As one of the country’s fastest-growing cities, and as a young city, jobs are important to drive the local economy,” Raven said.
How the Robots Work
The centre will use automation and mobile robots to bring inventory directly to workers, rather than requiring staff to manually locate items across the warehouse floor. Each robot can lift 500kg, communicate with employees through wearable Wi-Fi transmitters, and make routing decisions using centralised planning software.
Logan’s Logistics Boom
Amazon’s investment follows a pattern. Toyota is building a 31,000 square metre parts distribution centre at Crestmead expected to open in 2026. DHL, Culture Kings, Mitre 10, Rinnai, CEVA Logistics and Pinnacle Hardware already operate distribution warehouses in the region.
The Queensland Government, Economic Development Queensland and Trade and Investment Queensland worked with Charter Hall and Logan City Council to deliver the project. Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie said planning approval came through in 35 business days.
“That’s the fastest approval Amazon has received for any project in Australia to date,” Bleijie said.
What It Means for Logan
The North Maclean site will serve the whole of Queensland, with items weighing more than 16kg continuing to be handled from Amazon’s existing Lytton facility. The increase in truck movements along the Mount Lindesay Highway is expected to be a point of discussion for nearby residents as the 2028 opening approaches.
Job applications are expected to open closer to the opening date through Amazon’s Australian careers page.
